Laser Skin Resurfacing Q & A

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The medical team at MD Esthetics use the latest in cosmetic lasers to treat a variety of skin conditions including:

What Can I Expect During My Skin Resurfacing Treatment?

Laser skin resurfacing takes about thirty to sixty minutes to complete after preparation with topical anesthetic has taken effect. Additional medications can be prescribed for comfort and relaxation as needed, and we also can offer Nitronox for any procedural anxiety.

While the procedure itself is very comfortable, you may have a warm sensation in the treated area similar to an intense sunburn, that typically lasts 1-3 hours from the time of procedure. Immediately post procedure, your medical provider will apply post procedure skin care such as Alastin Skin Regenerating Nectar. It is recommended that you continue with this post treatment care as it promotes faster healing.

What Can I Expect After My Skin Resurfacing Treatment?

It is suggested that you apply our post care skin regimen including Alastin Skin Regenerating Nectar immediately after, which accelerates your skin’s healing abilities, and Alastin Soothe & Protect Balm 24 hours post treatment to add a protective hydrating barrier. It is critical to keep the skin hydrated while it heals and strictly avoid any sun exposure for four weeks. Your skin will be mildly to moderately red and sensitive. Erythema (swelling) is very common as well. Within a day after laser treatments, the skin may begin to slough off in tiny pixels, a process that may take about five to seven days, depending on the treatment area. After the initial healing phase your skin may appear pink for up to one to two months as new collagen is forming. This is typically completely concealable with our post-procedure choices of sunscreen: Sunbetter Tone Smart SPF 68 or Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 36. With laser resurfacing, patients can resume wearing makeup after about 7 to 10 days, and must refrain from shaving the treatment area for about 7 to 10 days following the procedure.

What Does The Treatment Look Like?

Additionally, the Tetra CO2 laser can provide the CoolPeel treatment, a milder fractional resurfacing treatment with less downtime than other laser treatments. CoolPeel also pairs well with Vivace microneedling for a comprehensive approach to minimizing wrinkles and acne scarring.
