Kybella - MD Esthetics

What is Kybella?

Kybella is FDA approved for the safe and effective treatment of excess fat under the chin. The main component of Kybella is a non-human/non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in your body to help absorb and break down dietary fat. When injected directly into moderate to severe pockets of fat cells under your chin, Kybella effectively destroys the cells and prevents them from storing or accumulating fat in the future. To avoid damaging surrounding tissue, it’s critical that you choose an experienced, trained injector for your treatment.

What to Expect:

Once your healthcare provider determines that Kybella is a great option for you, a series of up to six treatments, spaced at least a month apart, will be scheduled—though most patients are happy with their results after just two to four treatments. During your treatment session, Kybella will be precisely and thoughtfully injected into the troublesome fat under your chin. You may feel a very slight stinging sensation during the initial injection, though your overall treatment should be comfortable.

Your appointment should take no longer than 30 minutes. After your treatment, it’s normal to experience some bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness around the injection sites for the first few days. Numbness or a formation of hardness around the treated area may also occur, though these effects are temporary and completely normal. Many patients report that the intensity of the side effects lessened with each subsequent treatment.

Seeing Results

With Kybella, patients can see dramatic results after just a few short treatments—without a long recovery period, discomfort, or obvious side effects. At MD Esthetics, we recommend a series of 3-4 treatments for optimal results.

In studies, Kybella has shown high patient satisfaction rates: almost 80% of patients were extremely satisfied with the improved appearance of their face and chin and reported an improvement in confidence!
